About Australian gardening 
What is Australian gardening？
I am not sure there is systematic method or theory regarding Australian gardening.
I would like to give a definition which is generally used in Australia and which
using many plants not only native Australian plants but also is utilizing many plants,
from the Southern Hemisphere countries, such as South Africa native Protea and strelitzia,
Brazil native Jacaranda , and phormium tenax from New Zealand.. Of course,
the flowers from Europe are also used well. Aussie's are seldom adhere to the form,
this is Australian gardening.
The focal point is the fascinating,individual plants themselves. The wonderful plants which accomplished peculiar evolution in the Southern Hemisphere tells us the mystery of Nature as it is. And the culture of Australia has inherited the culture of Britain and it is the same in gardening. Furthermore, it is also the country of a crossing cultures and even the Japanese BONSAI is also popular. It is attractive again that such various culture is reflected also in gardening.
I lived in Melbourne before. There was a very large yard in my residence. Melbourne is called for "Garden City" and follows the traditions of Britain. Many beautiful yards can be seen in the residential area. A gardener came to my home once a week to care for my garden. Many varieties of flowers bloomed splendidly throughout the year . When I came back to Japan, I could not forget the wonderfulness of Australian gardens, and several years ago I started to import Australian plant seeds from Australia in order to recreate the garden in Melbourne.
To compare with the house in Melbourne, the present yard in Yokohama is the width of 1/ 10.
It is like a miniature garden surely. The cost of land in Yokohama Japan is crazy.
Only 200 square meters (10mx20m) site cost over AU$100 million.
The yard in Melbourne is unreproducible easily. On top of this,
the weather in Japan, severe cold in winter and the damp heat of summer,
is a big obstacle for Australian gardening in Japan.
There are also many kinds of tree which must be taken in to the indoor or under the eaves
in winter. How many failures did I have, and killed how many plants?
The plants from Australia are still continuously increasing in number, gradually, in my narrow garden .
